What is Duplex Steel?
Duplex steel is the Dutch term for duplex steel, also known as duplex stainless steel. It is a type of stainless steel with a two-phase microstructure consisting of both austenitic (stainless steel) and ferritic (iron) grains in roughly equal proportions.
The combination of these two structures gives duplex steel a unique combination of properties, including high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good weldability.
Duplex steel is often used in applications where high strength and corrosion resistance are required, such as in chemical processing, oil and gas industries, and marine environments.
Duplex steel is generally more expensive than traditional austenitic stainless steels, but the superior properties make it worth the investment in many cases.
